Chemotherapy port

Chemotherapy port can be used to draw blood and infuse chemotherapy drugs, and used for transfusions of red blood cells or platelets. In patients treated with several infusions, a port is often easier than inserting an IV each time. And some people have veins that are difficult to access, making a port a better option than placing an IV. A small round metal or plastic disc is placed under the skin on the upper chest. This port is then attached to a catheter tube that is threaded into one of the large veins near the top of the heart.Chemotherapy port lowers the risk of leakage (extravasation) into tissues.
